Graphic and Violent Content

Graphic and Violent Content

Graphic depictions of violence and cruelty can traumatize viewers, re-victimize survivors and families, fuel desensitization, and contribute to copycat behavior. They pose risks for minors, violate many community norms and erode user trust and brand safety. By removing graphic gore and allowing only limited documentary or educational uses, we reduce harm, respect the dignity of victims, and maintain a safer, more resilient community.

To this end, WeChat prohibits content that is particularly violent or graphic, such as pictures or videos depicting dismemberment, visible organs, bodies, human torture and animal abuse.

Graphic violence

We do not allow content that is violent or depicts unlawful acts involving violence towards any person, including:

a) sharing, soliciting, or distributing communications that graphically portray extreme physical harm or ongoing torture (including highly realistic or gory dramatizations);

b) promoting, celebrating, or fetishizing violent harm;

c) depicting or promoting cruelty, violence or unlawful acts towards persons (e.g. playground fights between minors, dismemberment, visible internal organs and human torture);

d) content concerning street battles, physical attacks, sexual assaults, torture, bodies or violent demonstrations;

e) coordinating, commissioning, or threatening acts that would produce such materials;or

f) using account elements (e.g. profile picture, group chat titles, usernames) that depict or glorify graphic violence.

Animal abuse

We do not allow content that depicts or promotes cruelty, violence or unlawful acts towards animals, except in cases of manufacturing, hunting, fishing, religious sacrifice or food preparation, processing or consumption.
