Sexual Content and Nudity

Sexual content or behavior that is explicit, non-consensual, or commercialized can cause harm such as invading privacy and contributing to trafficking. By prohibiting such behavior, we help to reduce real-world harm, safeguard vulnerable users, and uphold a respectful, compliant platform.

WeChat prohibits content or behavior that depicts explicit sexual activity, shows adult nudity in an explicit or sexualized manner, facilitates commercial sex, or exploits people through coercion, trafficking, or non-consensual sharing. We also prohibit sexual harassment and image-based abuse.

Depiction of sexual activity and adult nudity

We do not allow content that is sexually explicit, including:

a) pornography;

b) depicting sexual or erotic acts, behavior, or language;

c) genitals;

d) sexual arousal;

e) fetishes for sexual gratification;

f) something similar to any of the above.

More specific examples of prohibited sexual content include:

a) direct exposure and depiction of genitals;

b) sexual acts, sexual descriptions, descriptions of sexual methods or language with sexual innuendo and sexual teasing;

c) explicit or sexualized display of adult nudity, including in profile pictures, group chat names, and usernames;

d) nudity associated with a sexual fetish;

e) showing derivation of sexual pleasure from nudity or watching others engage in sexual activity (voyeurism);

f) descriptions of sex or teaching of sexual skills;

g) fictional content which violates moral values or relates to incestuous conduct;

h) sexual descriptions or sexually suggestive language;

i) erotic animation;

j) sexual abuse; and

k) sale of pornographic materials.

Offering or requesting for compensated sexual activity

We do not allow content that offers or asks for the following in exchange for any compensation:

a) sexual services, such as requesting, offering or asking for rates for escort service and paid sexual services;

b) sex or sexual partners (including partners who share fetish or sexual interests);

c) sex chat or conversations; or

d) nude photos, videos, imagery or sexual fetish items.

Non-consensual sharing of private sexual content

We do not allow content that coerces for money, sexual or non-sexual favors, or private sexual content from others by threatening to expose their private sexual content (including in the form of videos, pictures or other imagery) if they fail to comply with such requests.

We will not allow any private sexual content that fulfills all the following conditions:

a) the sexual content is non-commercial or produced in a private setting;

b) the person(s) depicted in the sexual content is fully or partially nude or is engaging in sexual activity or in a sexual pose; and

c) there is a lack of consent to share the sexual content.

Sexual harassment

We do not allow content that involves sexual harassment, including unwelcome sexual advances, non-consensual requests for sexual favors or targeting individuals in a sexual manner that causes distress, humiliation, or harm. Examples include:

a) unwanted sexual advances, persistent sexual messages after a request to stop, or sending sexualized media without prior consent;

b) offers or requests for sexual activity in exchange for something of value (e.g. access, favors, money, benefits) or tying benefits to sexual conduct;

c) degrading or threatening sexual remarks;

d) making severe sexualized commentary;

e) sharing derogatory sexualized photoshopped imagery or drawings; and

f) usage of account elements to target individuals with sexualized insults or sexualized intimidation.

Exceptions

We may, at our sole discretion, allow exceptions for the following content, if there is sufficient evidence or context showing that such content is not of a sexual nature:

a) female genitals in the context of birth giving and after-birth moments;

b) female nipples in the context of breast feeding, birth giving and after-birth moments;

c) male or female genitals, female nipples or other body parts displayed in the context of medical or health situations (e.g. health examination, disease prevention or assessment, breast cancer awareness etc.); and

d) works of art, depicted in a non-sexual context (e.g. sculptures of Venus di Milo and David etc.)
